Since 1974, the first year that I have a record of all competitors (from 1960 to 1973 I only have the finishers) an average of 7% have walked the whole 85 miles.
In the past 10 years the average number of finishers has been 9%.

I've been Involved in athletics for more than 46 years but my aged legs no longer permit me to run around Douglas early in the morning as I did from 2008. Previously a race walker, marathon runner and athletics official.
